Children who have disproportionately growing jaws are treated with different removable Functional Appliances or Head-Gears, in the age group of 8-12 years. These appliances when used judicially can modify the growth of the facial bones to suit patients facial proportions. This can greatly minimize or avoid the need of lengthy orthodontic treatments in the future |

Fixed orthodontic appliance treatment typically starts at the age of 12-13 years or after. There can however be a lot of variation depending on the needs of treatment. The patients usually seek this treatment for either irregularly placed teeth or for pushing back forwardly placed teeth. Among other things these treatments can sometimes need removal of a few permanent teeth which however does not cause any harm to the patients. The braces which are bonded over the teeth can be either metallic or ceramic(invisible, tooth coloured). Patients need to report to the hospital at least once a month for treatment. |
